I like Adrienne Smith's answer:

"I don’t concentrate on monetizing my blog because I use it as a tool to connect with others. My goal is to build up those relationships with them so that down the road they will want what I offer through the products I promote, my consulting or my own product that I will be releasing soon. I’m more about the connections."
