We would all love it if everyone who visited our website opted in to it somehow via RSS, social media, e-newsletter, etc. Having someone opt-in to your website means that they are committed to your website because they like what you are doing. There are a lot of things that can affect your opt-in conversion rate. The overall website is one, is it well designed, easy to navigate and is there something of value for the visitors. Besides these three overall factors there are a few little things that you can do that can lead to better results for what you want – more visitors of your website to opt-in!

Great ideas, Jason! One thing to remember with older folk like me is that bad eyesight forces a 200% magnification to be able to read the article, so most sidebar info is lost on the edges. If the blog is really good (like yours are), putting it at the bottom is fine - people interested in opting in will look for it wherever it is.
