I love this post and I couldn't agree with you more! I've been using blog commenting heavily as a part of my traffic generation strategy. It's been working like a charm.

On my blog, I'm currently using the wordpress plugin "Cackle" to collect comments. Although it isn't do follow, it's been fantastic for bringing me extra traffic from social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Every time I or someone else posts a comment on my blog, Cackle automatically posts it to your FB wall or Twitter status (if you leave the box ticked). This is killer for getting more exposure, engagement, traffic and social proof.
