Interesting example, Buzz.

The reviews said it all - but then, who would think a $35 drum machine would be anything but junk? :)

It also fits that "friends gave this to our son" - they likely had no idea about drum machines what-so-ever, or about why a cheapie would in fact turn out to be junk.
