During the last years, removing blog sidebars has become almost a trend. For several good reasons.

However, removing the blog sidebar is good in some cases, and bad in others. Sometimes a partial removal is the most appropriate.

Adrian: Thanks for your input! I don't have an archive list on my tea blog. As a long time blogger, I think it is good to have an indication of the publishing date of your post.

The last paragraph from my previous reply doesn't refer to blog posts displaying or not the publishing date.

It refers to the fact that almost no visitor visits a blog post and then searches based on the publishing date variable, i.e no one says, "Good article, now I want to see what Martin published on December 6th 2016, so I need an Archive in order to find that post."

That's why Archives are useless. The visitor may say, "Let's see what Martin posted about this topic that interests me." That's why the visitor doesn't need Archives, but Related Posts and related items.

However, if you'd like to know my opinion on whether it's good or not to display the publishing date, the answer is this: it depends. I won't further develop this topic because the discussion is already very far from the topic of my article.

Have a great Sunday!

Adrian: I have a sidebar on my site and blog, Tea Book Sketches. It is site and blog on my self-publishing journey and my first forthcoming book on tea. I have a freebie (on how to make the perfect cuppa) with a call to action button, and a badge for my crowdfunding campaign, in the sidebar.

Do you have an archive listing on your blog, in the sidebar?

Thank you for your comment, Martin.

My blog that you know has not one sidebar, but more. The sidebar that is seen by the visitor depends on the content from that page. But, anyway, none of my sidebars includes the box Archive.

From marketing point of view, I consider Archives useless and a waste of space.

From a visitor's point of view, I consider Archives useless.

I never searched archives from blogs, except for the case when I provided a marketing service to the owner of the blog and I needed to see every little thing posted on that blog.

A search bar, yes. Popular posts and the titles of these popular posts, yes. Etc. But Archives... no way!

No one cares what you or I posted on the 6th of December 2016, or in the month of August last year. A collection based on the publishing date is irrelevant and useless. The visitors look for topics that interest them, not for random posts arranged based on their publishing dates.
