Small business marketing using a blog remains one of the simplest most inexpensive means of marketing your business. Being in the business of running blogs for other people, I realize, of course, I can be relied upon to talk about blogs all day and all night. But the fact remains that, despite the influx of social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn et al) blogs remain a really powerful communications tool for business. Have a look at this post from SFGate back in 2005 and realize very little has changed in this respect.

For online business, visitors translate to revenue whether through online advertising or prospects who may eventually become clients. Blogs bring traffic, hence blogs bring customers (or partners.) How many depends on the business and its model and how much those who visit value the service or product being offered. However, obviously, with no traffic and no customers there is no business. So blogs that bring visitors have a direct impact on revenue.
