This is an article that I read about someone making a nasty comment on someone else's work to make themselves look better. I don't subscribe to that this approach. Do you?

Here is an excerpt from my post, Annual Blog Report II, from May 7, 2004:
I must admit that it have been ups and downs during this past year. Directly after I introduced EGO online store, I got this "friendly" comment from someone called "jackiefg":
"hold on, this is too much. now i'm supposed to want to buy t-shirts from a guy on blogspot because he writes his thoughts on the net (much like how many zillions of us do?) wait! this guy has a website! well then let me buy one of his t-shirts! i hope i can get in before the big line up."
What's up with this kind of comment?! I want to thank you who have purchased EGO products. If you are interested in buying a certain product, please contact me and I will add it to the store.
...
Recently I felt a bit down and was thinking of taking a break from blogging. I had published my interview with Dwayne Bell (founder and editor of Body in Mind) and later on I found some nasty comments by a bunch of anarchists who attacked my post in a very nihilistic way. But I am happy to say that I got moral support from some of my loyal readers and I got back on my feet again!

I will re-"kickstart" a site against this attitude sometime in the future.

I'm glad you didn't give up your dream just because someone took a poke at you. It's great you had supporters, as do I.

We are all here in this world together trying to reach our goals. Some people are jealous, too. They don't want someone else to get "ahead" of them. I feel sorry for these people.
Thanks for taking the time to comment! BTW, I like the words rational selfishness.

Yes, I totally agree with you. Whenever we put ourselves "out there" it leaves us open for criticism and nastiness from others. Everything that happens to us happens for a reason and I believe that it happens so that we can grow and become a better person.
I would never quit my dream because of some insignificant comment made by a total stranger.
It's my pleasure to share with this community because everyone is so giving and I learn a lot, too.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Thanks for you comments. No matter what language you speak a nasty comment is never needed. I'll have to look up the Law of Jante so, thanks for the bit of info.

Thanks for the post. Thanks to Donald for sharing it here on BizSugar. And thank you for being a contributor to our community. Negative comments are, alas par for the course (and not just in the online world.) Some have argued that the potential anonymity of the Internet leads to this. But, in fact, it is generally the risk we run by putting ourselves "out there." But whenever we think about packing it in, we should consider the costs of turning tail and running. Whenever we try to make improvements or reach outside our comfort zone, we risk failure...and rejection. This might seem scary until we realize that there really is no other way to grow.

Geri: I am sorry to hear about what happened to you. I received my share of nasty comments during the years. One time, I was thinking of stop with blogging due to a nasty comment, but I turned it around and created a positive outcome instead! :)
Please note that the nasty people often is lacking a real rational ego (I am in Latin), as you point out:
" It makes them feel better and pumps them up because they have feelings of inadequacy."
FYI: My first blog is called EGO, that is why I am "sensitive" to the use of this great word and concept (rational selfishness).

I'm glad you never turned your back on blogging. Quitting never really accomplishes anything anyway...except, of course, to hinder your progress and growth. We should never let others define such things for us. So giving into this kind of pressure is always a mistake. Fortunately, as you point out, it can also be a learning experience. :)
