Is this site, really that useful for SEO reasons? I just joined today and it seems a bit... empty? I don't see too many users.

SEO isn't about the number of links, its about the quality of links and how they are used. SEO is also about the social media aspects. If Google sees that your content is being shared a lot on Twitter or Facebook, then they will increase your rank. One way to improve your social shares is to get your content noticed by others.
