Great article. I would advise against replacing "citation needed" tags as bots are set up to watch for that. Even if you replace with a good source, newer editors may be accused of spamming simply for doing so. When adding links, I also advise to become a contributor (like you mention in the article) and actually contribute to an article. You can then use the link you want to add (assuming it is a reliable source) to support the content you are adding.
