Social bookmarking site Digg has launched a new service called Newswire that enables businesses to promote breaking news content published on their websites.Digg users traditionally engage viral, humorous articles, but Newswire aims to give exposure to “breaking news.” Currently in beta format, Newswire can be accessed on the social site's front page and enables users to better navigate news content submitted to the website.Members of the social bookmarking site can customize and sort their Newswire, which allows them to better filter the type of content they are shown. The filtering system updates users in real-time when new content is available on their Newswire feeds. At the same time, users can prioritize the news content they see according to topics, Trending status, media type (video, image, text, etc), minimum Diggs and more. Buries and Diggs will be publicly displayed in users Newswire Activity Feeds, and these social actions are “heavily weighted in discovering Trending Stories.”
