Giving away surplus produce may seem counterintuitive, but it isn’t–don’t worry, I’ll explain.

Tada Yasai, Japanese for “free vegetables,” is a web site that allows farmers in Japan to give away surplus produce or produce that has been rejected by grocery stores because it doesn’t meet the aesthetic criteria—the quality of the produce is still good, but it may be odd-shaped or bruised. There is no catch.

They do. It's really frustrating when you think about the people all over the world, even in the U.S., that are dealing with hunger and could have used the surplus food. (See Florida Strawberry article in post)
