You've seen the gigs on Fiverr offering you some large number of social media followers for $5. Or banner ads. Seems like a cheap way to get your accounts started with a bang. But buying followers will do more harm than good. Here are 5 reasons you should not buy followers and a bunch of tips on how you should grow your followings.

I am a cat person too, and it seems that they like me! ;) I agree with your view on political campaigns... My challenge is to get new Twitter followers in an organic way. Twitter's follow limit rule (at 2000 followers) is a hassle.

Hmm, have you tried running your account through something like unfollowers.com? You can delete fake accounts and people that never post from those you follow to free up space for more interesting accounts.

Laura: Welcome to BizSugar! Glad to hear that you are a cat magnet! ;) Scary to read about Newt G. fake followers...

Haha, being a cat magnet would be better if it had an upper limit. :-)

My policy is to assume every political campaign is doing something shady. It seems closest to accurate.
