When writing a business blog, it is important to remember your audience and why you are writing. Ricky Gervais performance at the Globes can highlight how important this is! Are you audience aware when you write your blog?

Hollywood has made too much money off of insult humor to be offended - look at "Fat" Jack Leonard, Don Rickles, the Dean Martin "Roasts" (when being drunk was still funny - before MADD), the Jeffersons, and just about every sit-com since. The business world - the real world - is another question. I've found that so many people are in fact humorless (especially at work), that it's a big risk. Either they just never laugh, or their thinking what an idiot you are when you're trying to liven things up.

I still miss Benny Hill - who can forget him as the middle-aged woman saying "Mrs.Pissi River"??

Barney,

Nice post! I'm not really sure how to consider an audience. The only thing I have done is trial-and-error, sort of seeing what gets a good response and what people don't deem to react to. I have found an article counter to be a good tool to see which types of articles are more successful and which ones have flopped.

I love British humor, especially BENNY HILL! My wife hates it and for the life of her can't understand the humor. I guess the big thing is we can't be all things to all people...the most we can hope is to find a niche.

Thanks for another great article!

Yoni
