How you promote your content is just as important as where. Let's talk about best practices in content promotion.

This is a very well written article and guide. If you had to choose just one form of promotion, which one would you choose and why?

Social media, it's very easy to target and reach interested people, compared to other avenues.

Hi Mary,

Great article!!! I have come to the conclusion after writing article after article over a year period in one of my businesses that constant content generation was not the key to getting my message out. Instead, promotion and marketing is the key.

As you said, you have to be very careful about spamming. However, you can alleviate that if you know the problems you really solve for people and businesses, then define who you solve the problems for (target marketing), and then learn how to message the solutions properly to that audience as you learn where they are hanging out at.

It's a HUGE amount of work, but the investment ins invaluable.

As a result of my efforts in this area, I've connected with one or two extraordinary bloggers of influence who now love my content and we share each others articles and social media posts consistently. It's amazing how that works!!!!

It does depend on how often you blog, how about a link to a landing page instead?

I agree that forum signatures bring traffic. However, I'm afraid I will be labeled as a spammer or doing link building if I switch my signature every time I create blog posts. Also, if I have 1000 forum posts indexed by Google, I'll be getting 1000 links to that blog post linked in my signature. Now that's unnatural.

I don't seem to have a hard time getting more likes, but to reach them, you just can't without paying to play- Boo on Facebook's part :(

Thanks for the article. I been studying this for quite awhile. I still have a hard time getting traffic to my website. About Facebook, since they made the changes don't you find it extremely hard to get people to like your fan-page?
