Learn about the addition of digital mapping data to the popular visual social platform in this most recent Tek Shouts! article. Pinterest now takes location data from Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Foursquare to offer its Pinners a more localized experience.

Where are you located? Check out Social Media Club's chapters:

I have been involved in the Social Media Club in Gothenburg for many years. The motto is: "If you get it, share it."

I have been a moderator twice: location based services and podcasting.

You learn through discussing themed questions how to apply social media activities on your daily worklife. Do you have a Social Media Club in your area?

I'm actually not sure if we have a nearby Social Media Club at the moment, but it sounds like something we should certainly look into!

The Tek Team: Yes, they are pretty useful tools and fun at the same time! ;) Here you could check out my check-in history: https://foursquare.com/lyceum/history

I was the moderator on the Location Based Services topic at a Social Media Club in Gothenburg, some years ago.

Thanks for the link! We'll have to peruse it later :)

That sounds like some very valuable experience to have in this time of mobile, local commerce. What's the most important thing you learned working at the Social Media club?

Swarm is a spin-off from Foursquare. I haven't figured out why they did split the app into two separate tools. Foursquare is a check-in app with a gaming element built into it, collecting badges and mayorships for places you visit on a regular basis. A small business owner could reach out to loyal customer by checking their check-in status and give them treats along the way. It is also useful for events, gathering a bunch of people at the same time, at a specific location, creating a "swarm".

Personally, I use it as a journal of places I have visited.

I am glad to see that Foursquare's service is getting utilized by Pinterest. I am still using Swarm (Foursquare's spin-off app), but it hasn't catched on here in Scandinavia.

Nice to hear from you again, Lyceum!

The Tek Team isn't as familiar with Foursquare or Swarm. What do you find useful about those platforms, especially in regard to small business owners?

Let us know!
