Some businesses love it, some businesses hate it but should you allow your staff to promote your business via their personal social media accounts. We look at both the advantages and disadvantages.

Yes, you should! You can't really stop them to write what they want during their spare time, right? The question is: are your co-workers trained in doing social media activities?

Very good questions and considering 68% of the UK digital marketers aren't trained for social media (I spoke to social media manager yesterday who said they had no training or experience whatsoever) I would find it very surprising if many did have the knowledge to make them effective.

Of course I think there is a problem that unless encouraged, many people will be negative on social media. The number of "I'm glad its the weekend tomorrow" or "my boss is hideous" or "company has made us do overtime night urgh" I see from employees is not good for brand reputation.

Therefore, we should be encouraging better social media activity and of a more positive nature.
