I think the problem with spam is not just that it's unwanted and rude. But at these levels it also becomes noise. Like the annoying updates you get sometimes from websites you've forgotten to unsubscribe to. You couldn't pay attention if you wanted to. You're so preoccupied with getting rid of it. So that nothing that is being said has a remote chance of catching your eye...not even if at some point it became insightful.
