Shawn: It is interesting how the hashtag started out on Twitter and then spread like a wildfire! Back in the day it was the InterRelayChat that stood for the hashtag for different topics / name of different chat rooms. IRC is still used in new podcast apps for having conversation during live-streaming sessions.
