My first visit to À l'Épi de Blé, one of the few French bakeries in Winnipeg, dates back to 2012. I went there because on the recommendation of a friend.

Yes, word of mouth absolutely does still matter. I still see many biz's in my local area that get good word of mouth biz.

Word of mouth is super important! Actual words from an actual mouth are great, but social media has found so many substitutes that we rely on instinctively: LinkedIn endorsements, Facebook likes, a Tumblr reblog. You know what kind of recommendation I would be psyched to see? A postcard of a business sent from a friend who was there...relevant for anyone?

Yes, the word of mouth is still valid in this day and age. An organization like Business Network International has built its whole business around idea of referral marketing.
