Flexible work schedules have both positives and negatives. While some managers feel that structure is good for a work environment, employees increasingly seek positions that offer leeway in work hours. Whether this means allowing untraditional hours or paying workers for outcomes rather than having them occupy a desk all day, there are a few reasons flexibility might be a good fit for your organization.

When you say you'll be open for business, you had better be open. The employees on duty had better be thee. But other employees whose presence is not required for being open for business should be given as much flexibility as possible.

Definitely. As someone who lived in a small town where the local restaurant would regularly "go fishing", it is really nice if you're open when you say you will be.

But most businesses could benefit from being less rigid and more flexible. People are not machines that need to clock in and out on the appointed second. Life happens.

If you want to keep the most talented thinkers, they need more flexibility so they can capture inspiration when it happens.
