Is 2011 poised to be the year of the smartphone? According to comScore’s 2010 Mobile Year in Review, yes. As of December 2010, 27 percent of U.S. consumers owned smartphones—an increase of 10 percentage points from the previous year. Also in 2010, 36 percent of Americans used their mobile devices to access the Web. The changes aren’t just affecting the U.S.: Mobile access rose by 7 to 9 percent across all global regions, reports comScore.
