You're definitely onto something here, Rick. (Also, you had me with the Jimmy Reed reference. I'm a big fan!) I'm thinking most purchases have to do with our perceptions and expectations of what we can do or have with the product or service. When something simply becomes a necessity (not even a convenience) it seems to me it is devalued in our eyes.
