Everyone was surprised when they first heard that Google employees are given free meals and haircuts. They were even more surprised when they learned that, in between coding sessions, employees could play a game of foosball or go for a massage.

It doesn't take much to motivate employees if it is done right. Many employers believe they need to spend money like Google to attract, retain and motivate talented employees, but many times it is small gestures that make the difference. Small, frequent rewards and even plain old Thank You can go a long way towards motivating your staff to give their best.
