A part of this post implies that some of the potential franchise owners are victims of layoffs. (The fact that there are some talking about being unwilling to spend energy on a job search.) With this in mind, I'm wondering:

1. What are the options for even a recently laid off person seeking financing to start a franchise and from where might this financing come?

2. Are there options for assistance from SCORE, the SBA or state or local governments perhaps as part of the stimulus package and is the barre for approval higher or lower than with an unproven startup marketing an unproven product?
