Joel, they're letting it happen because they've lost sight of their bread and butter core. They're trying to be all things to all people, to compete with the slow food movement, new nutrition, other franchises--even Starbucks, and very good publicity on their very scary food safety/nutrition practices. They should keep it simple, for those who will still eat the pink slime burgers and like them. No offense if you eat there. But isn't the problem that they're getting too unfocused, spreading their concept too thin? What do you think?
