DevOps is a hot field and there are plenty of opportunities out there—but not all DevOps jobs and departments are created equal.

“DevOps” means different things to different people—and that major variations exist in job titles and functions across organizations.

Read about Incapsula industry’s first DevOps salary survey, which will be highlighted in this post.

Ivan: Thanks for the explanation of the word, DevOps.

GrowMap: I will do that! Thanks for your input. For the record: I am not a real developer at the moment, but I have paid for the developer license to Apple and Google in order to have my own standalone app for my podcast prepared by my hosting company for the audio files (podcast episodes).

I will play around with an app maker tool, called AppSpotr later on. I think this tool will increase the number of DevOps from different walks of life, in the future.

Gail also did a couple of articles sharing further insights into what this white paper means for careers in this technology field. Check her site for one; the other is over on LinkedIn. :)

Is DevOps like the LinkedIn for Developers?

DevOps is more of a new way to describe particular jobs within the developer / operations field. If you download the white paper you will understand.

You may want to check the shared post for better understanding :)

Oh! I see, I was misunderstanding. It's a sort of management position to assess the quality control of devs? That's what i got from researching online.

I would say more a job position, or a "new trend/movement", than a social media, James.

What is DevOps standing? Developers / ? I am an app "developer" nowadays! ;) I have at least paid for the developer license for standalone app for my podcast show, EGO NetCast, to Apple's App Store and Google's Play app store. Amazon got included into the package.

You should definitely download the details of the salary survey, Lyceum. Use the information to decide what skills are in demand and pay best so you can position yourself for new opportunities.

It's like a "mashup" of Development and Operations

Hi Martin,

DevOps is a software development method that stresses communication, collaboration, integration, automation, and measurement of cooperation between software developers and other information-technology (IT) professionals.

Other than a new movement, it appears to offer new job opportunities for developers and IT professionals.

There is a lot of survey data in the download. Anyone can download it to find out more. I've suggested they do a follow-on white paper breaking down the data by major cities.

Erik, I suspect that DevOps currently is a hostile environment for women; this was confirmed in a comment on a Reddit discussion. It takes a long time for women and minorities to break into a new field as the status quo is strong.

+1 for suggesting a follow-up white paper. This one has generated a lot of interest, not only for developers already working in the field but for those looking to bridge the "dev" and "ops" areas.

Good suggestion, Gail.

To me, it’s particularly interesting that devOps is a male- dominated field, with almost 96% of those choosing to identify their gender were men.

And salaries are pretty high!
