There is a caveat hiring current employees recommendations (which are usually their friends). This can lead to a perceived "power block" in the minds of the other co-workers, who now must deal with a 2-against-one mindset in any job issue that comes up. This is especially true if it's a personal friend of a manager or supervisor. ('Been there.)
