Honesty is an integral part of business success. But when a business is in trouble, it can be tempting to exaggerate capability to get that next job. Exaggeration is fine - but only if it can be supported by capability once the job is underway.

Good points, Barney - as usual.

But it's only easy to be honest in good times if you're honest to begin with - look at Enron.

Hi Barney, it takes courage to be honest with customers, I agree, and you will leave business behind as a result. That said, there are plenty of customers out there that can smell a rat, that are tuned in enough to know, and these are the people I like to work with and for. Invariably, these are the more intelligent businesses people and they're companies are the ones that are going places. Interestingly, I find social media acts like a lighthouse, attracting clients that are right for me and my business.
