Adam: Great to hear! Is IRC still around? ;)

A quick Google search shows it is - the platform is still being actively developed. Amazing it’s still around after all this time :)

Adam: I hear you! I have talked with the CEO and co-founder of Haaartland.

You are right about Slack. We use it for two of our podcasts as prep. for episodes. I liked IRC back in the day! ;)

All the Best,

Martin

Excellent to hear, Martin. I think it's rare to find the 'for privacy' companies have an issue on that scale.

Same here. Not the best UX but it was great. I used IRC a lot during my online gaming days.

Adam: Check out Haaartland for the next time you do a review of alternatives to Facebook groups. I am an user and a supporter of this tool as it easy to set up and the company behind this tool is for privacy. I have heard stories about Discord that are a bit scary. I have a couple of Patreon pages. I am using Slack and LinkedIn on a regular basis..

Another tool you should look into is Mastodon social. Adan Curry and Dave Jones of Podcasting 2.0 are using this tool. I like the idea of it, but I have not got a hang of it yet. I have similar issues with the UX / UI of Mastodon as with Discord. It feels a bit like old school. ;)

All the Best,

Martin

Thanks for the suggestions, Martin! I’m always a little cautious now about “for privacy” companies after what happened with DuckDuckGo recently but I imagine that’s more of an exception.

Weirdly, Slack feels a bit old school to me as well. It reminds me of the old internet relay chat (IRC).

Yes Adam, I love some groups over on Gab and MeWe too.

Thanks Adam, these are great, the only one I knew about is Reddit. The rest are all new :)

Sure thing, Lisa. There were quite a few new ones to me as well :) It’s great to know that there are so many alternatives available now.
