When Howard Stern talks, people listen. They may not always agree with what he says. In fact they often vehemently disagree, but it can be difficult to turn him off. The first time I actually heard him (after hearing so much about him), I found his routine to be obnoxious and shallow, yet I was inextricably drawn and unable to change the station.
Although I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Howard Stern as a role model, he does have some compelling qualities that have propelled him to his current position as the highest paid radio person ever and one of the most well known Americans in the world:

Granted he's controversial, but I had no problem at all tuning him out - just like I tuned out Rush Limbaugh. Controversy & shock sells, but regardless of the angle, many of us just find it either boring, or annoying. Still, your points are well taken for the people fascinated by controversy for its own sake.

When I first heard Howard Stern, I thought he was interesting, but ultimately insubstantial. However more recently I have found him to be thought provoking, I generally agree with his opinions and find him to be an excellent interviewer. I think he has matured, and although he continues to thrive on controversy, there is a lot more to him than that.

Ronika,

I really like this article! howard, the self-procalimed "King of All Media" has learned that very simple lesson in life: be honest, be yourself and be as outlandish and outrageous as you possibly can. Everybody, EVERYBODY will take at least one look. Some might be turned off an never come back, but you'll get a lot of people who do. I really think that getting people to take that initial look is the key in business.

Thanks for another thought-provoking piece!

Thank you, Yoni. As usual, I totally agree. There are so many people that are bland, that when you meet someone with presence and personality, you remember them. You only have one chance to make a first impression!
