Seth Godin still recalls the day his Google T-shirt got a gushing reaction from a passer-bye. That was back in the days when the search engine was new. It was at a time when customers had a crush on Google just as they have a crush on Twitter today. Crushes are helpful because they help you outdistance the competition. And they are created by two things: mystery and generosity. How do you create a brand your customers can fall in love with...at least for a little while?

There are very few brands capable of generating this crush. Apple is one that comes to mind. People, including me, still are wowed by what they produce. Tesla is another company that has been gaining similar reaction. Their CEO, Elan Musk, is compared with Steve Jobs for his creativity and out of this world thinking.

Is the crush over with Google nowadays? Maybe it is time for Panda, Penguin & Co. to include the duck in the row at the animal farm, and quack: "duck, duck, go!" (an alternative browser)! ;)
