When you are perfecting your marketing strategy, you need to know how your customers think and what it takes to influence them.  Human beings are stubborn creatures who are reluctant to change their perceptions.  When you market to them, you need to know what it takes to change their minds.

"Customers will respond to marketers who go out of their way for them", I agree with line and I think it is a good example.

It is very difficult to influence people, most especially those who are well equipped with knowledge. It really needs strategies and effort.

Giving in order to receive is nothing new and certainly is not unique to social media marketing. Even ideas like freemium, giving away service free in order to market enhancements to that service, while often touted today as a new business model, has its roots in some very old concepts about how humans interact. In any human endeavor some give is required. How else in the world can anyone be expected to interact with us?

Good ideas! It's much harder to develop trust online than it is in person, especially if it's a business giving something away. Even a big corporation giving something away free (like a sippy-cup with their logo) doesn't engender the same feeling as a smiling person handing you something you actually like.
