You could call them motherhood statements, such as never discount your price or all small businesses must be on Twitter. It may seem easier and safer to just go along with these statements and follow what is said. The problem is if you automatically do this it can stop innovation and opportunities.
You Must Do This if You Want to Succeed

I had the same issue with the video.
I totally agree with the sentiments of your post. If you examine the leaders in any field, you will always find that they buck conventional wisdom and follow their own internal compass.
Breaking new ground, doesn't always meet with success, and I suppose that's why many follow the "norm" after all it's safe.

Sometimes it Does seem like the whole blogosphere is ganging-up on us as to what we must - or must not - do. The circumspect approach you suggest is far superior.
I couldn't see the video (a copyright issue), but what a coincidence - tonight my sister Roberta shared a video of a Cat with 3-4 dolphins. They nuzzled.

p.s. I know you're a Cat lover - on YouTube, check "Liger". It has Hercules, the world's largest cat. He's 12 feet long, and weighs in at at svelte 900 pounds. Half Lion, half Tiger. He's as tame as a Kitten.
