I've been doing a lot of online shopping lately, and it was interesting to register some of the mistakes online merchants (aka e-tailers) make. As I was watching them commit their mistakes, I couldn't help but also make parallels with affiliate program management.

I don't mind the bot-sent "your order has been received", but like you said, it's not nearly enough - I want a separate e-mail from a human, and w/in a day or 2, tracking info. I usually e-mail before I order (to be sure items are in stock, how soon they ship, etc). This filters out vendors that don't like to reply to customer e-mails beforehand: no reply = no order.
