If you have been following, Yelp has been making some moves lately and it is all about revenue. Like many online marketing companies, Yelp is trying to get closer to transactions and direct revenue because the closer you get to the transaction the better to justify your cost. It’s much easier to take a transaction fee than to try to justify a marketing budget – just ask Uber. Most PPC companies get closer by doing call tracking to get cost per call. But transactions are even closer and Yelp should want a piece of the local commerce market, where 90% of retail occurs.
