Losing your rankings can mean anything from an increase in competition for your key phrases, which will show a more gradual drop. This is a natural way of losing your Google rankings, and it doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong, but rather that you require a more aggressive search engine optimisation strategy. Another thing is that people don't do is update their site. Google doesn't like when you don't update your site. It looks like an inactive site when you do this.
