Marketing, if done well, is all about telling stories. Does your business have a story? Are you telling that story, or is it being told for you? Now is the time to seize your own narrative and cement it in your customers' minds so they can retell it for you.

Thanks for bringing me back to Neil Young, one of my favorites, for a great music Monday!

BTW - I thinks it's "further ado" not "further adieu" :)

Cindy,

I look to great musicians like Neil Young for lessons to tell a good story. In his classic "Harvest Moon" the lyrics begin with him singing, "Come a little bit closer, here what I have to say."

It's like blogging. Please listen to the story I have to tell. And sell.

Without further adieu:

...I watched the needle take another man, gone...gone, the damage done. Very depressing.

Neil is a classic story-teller. I love the transition form guitar to harmonica. He's a master!

I just saw it - it's very good - happier than an old friend's favorite "The Needle and the Damage Done". Harvest Moon is in the Lydian mode, with a drop-D tuning for the 6th string. The high, ringing notes are natural harmonics - they're tricky - if you don't touch the string exactly right, all you get is a muffled 'tink'. I always liked Neil.

See, I just played the video for my wife and she's weeping like a child.

Alastair,

Yes, I really believe that storytelling turns marketing into more of an art form and takes the shrillness out of promoting oneself.

thanks for the comment.

This story telling approach is something I've come across a couple of times lately and the case for working it into your marketing seems compelling.

It's something I think we've got pretty wrong in our own business and need to work on.

Thanks for another solid piece of advice.

Alastair
