If you aspire to national publicity in media, then don’t ignore the local media. It helps you become polished, makes you a hometown celebrity and opens the door to the national stage. Ready why and how.

I think your last point is the most important, you’re providing content (value), not selling. Great tips, thanks for sharing.

I agree wholeheartedly that taking advantage of local media opportunities is the way to go, and frankly it's more important to many small businesses to get the word out there on a local level than a national one at first, especially if they center on bricks-and-mortar rather than online sales. Local media are more accessible, to be sure. Notice, too, the trend over the last 5-10 years of print media focusing primarily on local markets? Local patronage is one of the few ways they can survive, so they definitely become more "accommodating" to local businesses. Good submission. Begs the question, "Will traditional media survive?"

Brilliant suggestions. I know some local companies that utilise this type of media and it works wonder for them. Thanks for sharing on Bizsugar.com
