Most people who shop online don't often do so in a single sitting. Some shoppers like to casually insert items in their carts, think about things a little bit and then make their actual purchase later.
The problem with this shopping behavior is that unless customers login or have an account with your shop, it can be difficult to keep their shopping cart intact when they return.
Today's article describes a solution to this problem that I just implemented with my own online store.
Are You Pissing Off Shoppers Because Your Website Is Timing Out?

The trouble is that I don't think any customer anywhere cares about a Website's problems in implementing a particular feature with a shopping cart. They only think about ease of operation and if you're site's not easy to use, they'll just go elsewhere.

There's a caveat here - if I put something in my cart & abandon it, then come back in a few days & put something different in, I'll panic if I see anything from before in the cart besides what I'm looking at now - maybe I changed my mind & have no interest in the 1st item - that's why I abandoned it in the 1st place. Now I have to figure out how to delete items from the cart, etc. - it's Panic City till I get it straightened out - or, I just never go back there again. The 1st time that happened to me, I almost didn't see it - I was almost suckered into paying for something I didn't want in addition to what I did want, and I was Ticked Off.

p.s. We had a photog when I was a kid - Mr. Morgan - he made a little rabbit out of a hankie to make us smile - and he let us keep it.
