The tasks of everyday life require good eyesight.

Thankfully, my close-up eyesight is quite good. I can read my morning newspaper, see my breakfast eggs, and clip my toenails without any problem whatsoever (rest assured, I don't do all three at the same time).

But thanks to my nearsightedness, I can't see

Great analogy, Skip. And something that I think has implications way beyond sales professionals. As small business owners, focusing only on longterm in the beginning when cash flow is critical can be suicide...unless you're being funded by some deep pockets willing to wait until your great idea pans out. At the other extreme, focusing only on the short term sale without an eye to innovation and developing new markets can doom your business to a short life in an evolving market that will leave you behind.
