It’s easy to understand that tools don’t give you improvements outside of sales. Why is it difficult to resist the new tools when it comes to sales effectiveness?

Well...#1 they're glossy. B. Tools solve problems if you actually have a problem. iii. The bigger problem is thinking critically about what problem the tool is solving. If the only problems being solved are that of the software publisher, then it's not a tool that the would-be marketer should avoid. Example: There's a dude selling...errr...not sure if he still is - this was a few years ago...anyway...selling software that comments on blogs, (this was about 6 months after Wordpress installed default nofollow). That's fine, except he positioned the software as an SEO solution for powerful Google domination. Well...not so much. If he had positioned it as an easy way to find and comment on interesting posts then...yay, much success. But, no...he sold it as an SEO tool. It's glossy but so is his new Range Rover that he sits in during Friday traffic. G.D. I'm snarky! Look at me go!

Tools are only as powerful as the man or woman who wields them. I am reading The Golden Compass right now, and it is amazing what a difference it makes when Lyra learns to read the compass instinctively, without having to refer to dozens of books to interpret the meanings.
