I am a huge believer in Parkinson's Law -- and in the need to reign in meeting tyranny. It's especially important to be careful not to be lulled into believing that having a meeting on a project is the same as getting it done. I think very small businesses often have less trouble with this because they don't have the luxury of meeting on projects and then delegating the work to someone else.

And you're right about the smaller companies, when the work still needs to get done people often feel more urgency about keeping meetings short. Though experience has taught me that it will still help to keep hard deadlines, otherwise the projects just take way longer than they should ;)
