Jane, your article is fantastic. I have a background in dealing with these issues and the psychology of group brainstorming is very complex. You touched on many of the problems quite well; people are afraid to speak out, they have a desire for acceptance by the team, strong personalities in the group influence others, the leader has an opinion, some people don't care...it gets complicated.

I believe the research has shown that individual brainstorming is equal, if not better than, group brainstorming. In the event you do elect to use brainstorming in a group setting, some companies have began using electronic style brainstorming where participants enter their ideas into a database and they are discussed without anyone being judged or feeling they may look stupid or go against their bosses' ideas, etc. This process has greatly eliminated the issues commonly associated with group brainstorming.

Thanks for the great article. You have a very clear writing style and it was fun to read.

Hello Jane. This is a good question and in my own point of view, I think that group brainstorming is better because, two heads are better than one. Thanks for sharing this with the bizsugar community.
