Seth Godin talks about the fear of going all the way with your great idea, a fear he says is rooted in our primal survival instincts and keeps telling us to play it safe, go with the flow and not stick out. Unfortunately, the lizard brain, while programmed for survival, may be keeping you from creating that really great idea that will set your business apart. Is your survival instinct helping or hurting your business?

Seth scores - as usual. Taking a half-step back probably IS the reason a lot of people fail at whatever they attempt, but in music - especially in the days when high$$$ record labels controlled access 100% (before the web) - it was the industry execs choking off all creativity: "Sound like so-&-so in the top 40, or forget music". Few took the hard road of less money, less fame, etc, to make the music they had inside them. I'm guessing those that did had little choice - they were driven to do it their way, regardless.
