it is interesting to contrast this building and I do agree with Adam that it is ugly with Warren Buffet who I think still lives in the same home he bought a number of years ago.

We had a guy who opened a big company here in Israel several years ago, IDT. It became huge and the guy, Howard Jonas, was worth tens and tens of millions. He remained in a modest home. There is a well-documented story that he came to work one day, dressed as usual in jeans and tennis shoes. A guard refused to let him in without an ID badge and asked who he was. It was only very reluctantly that he admitted that he owned the place.

But don't forget... if Mr Ambani paid $1.2 billion, that means *some* of that money was pumped into the economy over there- ie the workers who built the structure (though they probably got minimum wage), the businesses that provided the materials, etc. It's better that he spends the money then having it sit in some hidden coiffers...
And don't forget also that one day he'll leave this world and all his money behind... If he wants to be remembered by the ugly building he lived in and not by the acts of kindness he did, then so be it.

The pic is not that good, I had to choose a crappy, low kb one so as not to slow down loading. Check out one of the high-quality picks.
You are right about him spending, part of the trickle-down theory.
Thanks for reading.

It is really a story that makes you think about how much a person needs in life. I strongly believe that money is there to be comfortable. But what is comfort. It is also there to help others. I wonder of he gives a lot of charity. If he does thats a good thing but still no excuse to build a home worth over one billion $.

Comfort is something we all hope will be an outcome of our vocational pursuits. This guy is just out of control!

I read some eye-opening statistics on what the average person in India subsists on. Very, very low wages in general. Many in the rural areas would love a luxury like indoor plumbing. And this guy's got a golden bath-tub!

There are so many people suffering and having a hard time out there. Homeless, sick, and just struggling to get by.
What a freaking waste of money that could be used to do good. Is this why people try to become rich in business?

Many people hope to become rich through business pursuits. Many such as Bill Gates do great things with wealth. Many others live extravagantly but with limits. A billion-dollar, palatial, private-residence in the middle of impoverished India though? Fucked-up!
