I've definitely gotten leads and clients through LinkedIn. But that was then and this is now. Social media has changed greatly in just a few years. The key is to let your profile do the talking (with appropriate links) and avoid any outward selling, as David says, to people while leaving comments and engaging in networking activities.

Thanks for the input. I agree. I've received some blatant selling from LinkedIn connections and it's been a real turn off. "let your profile do the talking" - well said!

LinkedIn can be tricky for generating sales. B2b and particularly professional services are doable, but still, people don't like being sold to while networking (even though we all are, although subtly).

I agree that subtlety is the way to go, and like all social media, it's key to be a listener for a while and absorb the proper etiquette before diving in. Thanks for the comment.
