Today, I read an excellent article by Renee Pawlish. In Indie Authors – To Promote Or Not To Promote, she talks about how challenging promotion can be for authors. The two resources that she quotes (a post by Kristine Kathryn Rusch and a survey by Taleist) seem to show that word-of-mouth and reviews are the only things that really work.
I agree and disagree with that statement.
I think that promotion DOES work. If it does not work for you, it is probably because you are doing it wrong. Let me explain why.
