As I tried to reassure people that social media is merely a set of tools that allowed people to communicate, much like pen & paper & e-mail, one analogy used for social media that particularly struck me was that of the old corner shop.

I think that the corner shop is another example of The Third Place concept. A place to meet and exchange ideas, between your home and your office.

It's great to see this piece on the "Hot-Topics" page! It really is an exceptional piece! The more I read it the more I'm seeing the outstanding value of what you have written. There is a generational gap. We youngsters tend to think that it's all about youth, and sometimes it's easy to forget that there is a huge market out there for the older crowd. By bridging the generational gap as you state, we can have a much broader appeal to include the older demographic. The mentality of the corner store is an excellent way to achieve that. It is a trusted, honored and iconic part of our lives and our history and by developing the attributes which it stands for, we can better ourselves and our businesses.

Thank so much for the kind words. Sometimes it's about finding something that people can relate too. I think engaging has always been part of great business, perhaps social media is more a return to the old than we might like to think.
