As an entrepreneur mentor and startup investor, I see with sadness the 50 to 90 percent that fail. If you ask them for a reason, most will insist that they couldn’t get funding, or they ran out of money too early. But I’m not convinced that it’s as simple as that. Many are just not facing the reality that their passion had a critical business flaw.

Martin,

I always have this historical myopia problem with me. I tend to overly optimistic on my startup, simply because what I do has worked well in the past. I was wrong.

My startup is doing fine, but not to the extent that I've always hoped for. I'm still learning the market and see what changes. I discovered that a lot have changed and let's say that I'm using old, obsolete data and info to make my projections.

Thanks for the insight!

Ivan: I was thinking of quote from The Shawshank Redemption: "Get busy living or get busy dying," after I read the post about the book, “Dead Companies Walking,” by Scott Fearon.
