Too many entrepreneurs develop a new product without regard to market demand, then build an entire strategy based on creating a need, rather than acting on an existing market need. Investors characterize this approach as a “solution looking for a problem.” These don’t get funded.

Hi Martin,

One thing I enjoy watching is the TV show "Shark Tank." It's interesting to see what the "sharks" will invest in, what's valuable to them etc. There's a saying, I believe, that goes something along the lines of - Find a solution to a common problem, and you will be rich. Thanks for the article!

One thing I really agree with is that bit at the end, maybe waiting until the next round to boost that ground-breaking technological idea, using the success from a well-researched, well-thought out and perhaps more feasible idea as a launchpad. Interesting post, Martin.
